Join the Feedy Needy Book Drive and help promote a literate community
September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on November 17, 1965 and was first celebrated in 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies, globally. Joining UNESCO in the bid to raise public awareness of the extraordinary value of the written word and to promote a …literate society, the Feedy Needy team have embarked on a book drive locally to make a difference in the lives of members in the community. As a non-profit organisation based in Phoenix, Feedy Needy strives to bring bright smiles to the impoverished and disadvantaged, irrespective of race, religion or gender. Therefore, to mark International Literacy Day 2015 on September 8, the Feedy Needy team will distribute books collected to indigent communities in Phoenix and surrounding areas. Locals, and any other interested individuals, who are keen on making a difference in society by donating books to this worthy cause, can drop off the books at the Feedy Needy office situated at 57 Brailsford Avenue, Phoenix or call the office on 031-825-3880 to make arrangements for the books to be picked up. An appeal is made to donors to ensure that the books are in a good condition and will be beneficial to the eager recipients, both young, and of an adult age.
